Lock Haven University also extends the offering of the Physician Assistant Program to the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania via our Coudersport Campus. With the state-of-the-art technology, the University is able to deliver high-definition television quality, fully-interactive, live broadcasts of curriculum between four campus locations. Full-time resident faculty at Coudersport conduct the same small group learning and lab experiences that are provided at the Lock Haven Main campus while students enjoy the more rural environment and individual attention afforded by a smaller class size. Coudersport Pennsylvania is located 70 miles north of the Lock Haven Campus and 20 miles south of the New York State boarder. Coudersport is a very rural community and is located within a federally designated health manpower shortage area.
The campus is housed at Cole Memorial Hospital located next to the Emergency Room entrance. The facility includes 24-hour emergency care; 25-bed acute care (medical/surgical, obstetrics and gynecology, intensive care); inpatient geriatric behavioral health: skilled nursing facility (long term care); inpatient rehabilitation unit; surgical services; home health and hospice; cancer care; and rehabilitation services including physical, occupational and speech therapies. The campus is specially designed and provides students with a state of the art facility with the latest innovations in technology. During the clinical year, students from the Coudersport location complete clinical experiences at the same locations as students from the main campus. This educational model has been studied extensively by the program faculty and has been performed at the Clearfield Campus since 2006. It represents a highly effective mechanism to extend the PA curriculum to citizens in the northern regions of the Commonwealth. Lock Haven University is one of only several programs nationally to utilize this advanced technology having four locations presently available.
